Danish Environmental Agency Confirms Death of Stranded Humpback Whale Timmy
Timmy, a young humpback whale that had been stranded for weeks in shallow waters, was found dead off the coast of Denmark. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency confirmed the whale's identity after retrieving a faulty tracking device that had been attached during a previous rescue attempt. Timmy was initially spotted in March entangled in a fishing net in Wismar harbor, Germany, and later became stranded near Timmendorfer Strand. Despite extensive rescue efforts, including a controversial privately funded attempt to guide him into a barge and release him into the North Sea, Timmy's health continued to decline. The whale was found near the island of Anholt, approximately 130 kilometers from his release point.
