Finnair Adapts Pilot Training Amid Daily GPS Interference in Baltic Region
Finnair has modified its pilot training and operational procedures to address persistent GPS interference in the Baltic region. This issue has become a daily challenge for the airline, particularly since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has led to increased electronic warfare near NATO's eastern flank. The interference has intensified significantly this year, with Poland's Communications Institute reporting disruptions to GPS and other satellite navigation signals along its Baltic coast on most days during the summer. In 2024, Finnair was compelled to suspend flights to Tartu, Estonia, for approximately a month due to the interference preventing safe aircraft approaches.
