Florida Teen Drops Addiction Case Against Meta, Avoids Trial
A Florida teenager, identified as R.K.C., has withdrawn his lawsuit against Meta, which accused the company of creating an addictive platform that led to his mental health issues. The case was set to be the second 'bellwether' trial among hundreds of similar lawsuits against social media companies. R.K.C. had previously settled with YouTube, TikTok, and Snap, leaving Meta as the sole defendant. The trial was scheduled to begin soon in Los Angeles Superior Court. Meta has stated that the claims were baseless and that the withdrawal of the case supports their stance. R.K.C.'s attorneys noted that the decision to drop the case was influenced by the successful outcomes of previous litigation and the desire to focus on recovery.
