U.S. Lawmakers Express Concerns Over Pentagon Budget Gridlock at Airshow
During the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, U.S. lawmakers expressed concerns about the ongoing gridlock affecting the Pentagon's budget. The Trump administration's defense priorities, including the Golden Dome missile defense program, are at risk due to delays in passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and other funding measures. Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) highlighted the improbability of passing the NDAA in the current midterm environment, suggesting a continuing resolution might be necessary to maintain government operations at current spending levels. The administration has proposed using reconciliation, a budget maneuver allowing passage by a simple majority, to secure defense funding. However, this approach has faced criticism from both parties, with concerns about setting a dangerous precedent.
