U.S. Department of Energy Awards National Grid $49 Million for Grid Modernization in Northeast
National Grid has been awarded approximately $49 million by the U.S. Department of Energy for a project aimed at enhancing grid reliability and efficiency. This initiative, known as the Dynamic Rating Enhancement Advancements and Modernization (DREAM) project, will utilize advanced transmission technologies to improve the performance of National Grid’s transmission network across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The project seeks to provide better visibility into transmission line operations, enabling more informed operating and planning decisions. According to National Grid Vice President of Engineering and Network Strategy Andrew Schneller, the DREAM project will contribute to a more reliable, resilient, and affordable electric system for customers by optimizing existing infrastructure. This award is part of the Department of Energy’s Speed to Power (SPARK) program, which focuses on accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies to expand grid capacity, improve reliability, and reduce costs...
