College Professor Uses Hidden Prompt to Expose AI Cheating Among Students
A college professor at Alcorn State University, Jason Gibson, devised a method to catch students using AI to cheat on essay assignments. By embedding a hidden prompt in an essay question, Gibson was able to identify students who copied and pasted the prompt into AI tools. The prompt instructed students to include the word 'Madagascar' in a nonsensical manner, which AI-generated responses did. Out of 35 students, 32 were caught using AI, highlighting a growing trend of AI-assisted cheating in academic settings. This method revealed a lack of critical engagement with AI-generated content among students.
