Lewiston Contractor Matthew Roy Faces Criminal Charges and $114K Civil Settlement
Matthew Roy, a contractor from Lewiston, Maine, is facing criminal charges and a civil settlement of over $114,000. Roy, owner of MJR Contracting and Roofing, has been indicted on felony theft and home repair fraud charges. The charges stem from allegations that he accepted payments for work that was either incomplete or never started. Homeowners, including Cam Seymour, reported paying thousands for projects that were not fulfilled. The Maine Attorney General's Office has confirmed at least 14 consumer complaints against Roy since 2021. As part of the civil settlement, Roy admitted to violating consumer protection laws and is prohibited from operating a contracting business in Maine for the next 10 years. He is required to pay restitution and civil penalties totaling $114,250.
