Angola Discovers New Offshore Oil and Gas Reserves with Katambi-2 Well
Angola's state-owned oil company, Sonangol, along with its partner ANPG, has successfully drilled the Katambi-2 appraisal well in the Benguela Basin, confirming significant oil and gas reserves. The well, located offshore, demonstrated promising reservoir potential, surpassing the quality metrics of the earlier Katambi-1 well. Initial tests revealed a production rate of 1,160 barrels per day of condensate and 41 million standard cubic feet of gas, with no water or hydrogen sulfide detected, indicating strong economic viability. This discovery is part of Angola's broader strategy to revitalize its oil production and develop non-associated gas resources, following a period of declining output.
