Coast Guard Awards $400 Million Contract for Training Center Upgrades
The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded a $400 million contract to Whiting Turner Contracting Company for the design and construction of new facilities at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey. This project represents the largest shore construction award in Coast Guard history and aims to modernize the training center, which is the sole accession point for enlisted personnel. Funded through the Working Families Tax Cut Act and annual appropriations, the upgrades will increase the center's capacity to train recruits from 5,500 to over 8,000 annually by 2030. Planned improvements include new barracks, a multi-purpose training facility, and a modern fire station.
