Egyptian Ministry of Tourism Launches Digital Visa-on-Arrival System for International Travelers
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities has announced the introduction of a digital visa-on-arrival system aimed at enhancing the arrival experience for international travelers. This new system, set to pilot on August 1, 2026, at Cairo International Airport, will replace the traditional paper visa sticker with a QR code. The digital visa costs a total of US$36, which includes the current visa fee and an issuing fee. Travelers can obtain their visa QR code through an online portal, mobile app, or self-service machines at the airport. The QR code is valid for 48 hours after issuance and can be generated before departure, during the flight, or upon arrival. The Egyptian Tourism Authority plans to phase out the paper visa system and extend the digital system to other airports in stages.
