Flash Flood Warning and Traffic Disruptions in Fitchburg-Leominster Area
A flash flood warning was issued for Leominster, Fitchburg, and Gardner, Massachusetts, by the National Weather Service until 10 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026. Heavy rainfall has caused localized flooding, leading to road closures and traffic disruptions. Merriam Avenue at the Route 2 interchange in Leominster and Fitchburg is closed due to flooding, and Route 2 has been reduced to one lane in each direction. The region experienced 1 to 2 inches of rain, with some areas reporting significant water accumulation. Mayor Dean Mazzarella of Leominster noted that the Monoosnoc Brook, previously at low levels due to drought, was overflowing, causing additional challenges. Crews are actively working to address flooded basements and other impacts. (Source time: 2026-08-03T12:36:00 ET)
