DeKalb County Schools Empower Students in Cybersecurity Education
At the CoSN 2026 conference, Georgia's DeKalb County School District (DCSD) showcased its Cyber Champions program, which empowers students to lead cybersecurity education efforts. The initiative, now in its second year, involves students teaching digital safety, phishing awareness, and AI ethics to peers and teachers. This student-led approach aims to foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness without dedicated funding, utilizing existing district roles and free digital resources. The program has led to qualitative improvements in cybersecurity practices, with students and teachers becoming more vigilant about data privacy and site security.
