WAJSIC Report Highlights Media Challenges in Sahel States Amid Political and Security Pressures
The Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC) has released a report titled 'The Sahel: The State of the Media 2025-2026', which examines the media landscape in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The report, produced in collaboration with Sahel Horizon, highlights the increasing challenges faced by journalists in these countries due to legal restrictions, administrative sanctions, digital surveillance, and economic pressures. Despite these adversities, the report notes the resilience of journalists who continue to provide independent reporting. The study also offers recommendations for media organizations and international partners to support independent journalism in the region.
