Southern California Faces Evacuation Orders Due to Chemical Tank Leak
In Southern California, approximately 40,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate due to a hazardous chemical leak from a storage tank at an aerospace plastics facility in Garden Grove, Orange County. The tank, containing between 6,000 and 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate, began overheating and venting vapors, posing a risk of explosion or chemical spill. The Orange County Fire Authority has been working to manage the situation, but the potential for the tank to fail remains a significant concern. Evacuation orders have been extended to residents in nearby cities, including Cypress, Stanton, Anaheim, Buena Park, and Westminster. No injuries have been reported, and efforts are ongoing to stabilize the tank's temperature and prevent further leakage.
