Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs Proposes Overhaul of Israel Education to Include Middle East Curriculum
The Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA) is advocating for a significant overhaul of 'Israel education' programs, both in the Diaspora and within Israel, to incorporate a comprehensive Middle East curriculum. The JCFA argues that current educational approaches, which often focus heavily on Zionist history and Israel as a Western-style democracy, leave young Jews ill-equipped to understand the complex geopolitical and ideological landscape of the Middle East. This gap in knowledge, according to the JCFA, contributes to a growing number of Jewish youth questioning or rejecting Zionism and being susceptible to anti-Zionist narratives without sufficient historical context. The proposed curriculum aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of Islamism, Arab nationalism, Palestinian politics, regional conflicts, and international law, thereby strengthening their Jewish identity and ability to engage with contemporary issues.
