Great White Shark Filmed in Mediterranean for First Time, Shocking Scientists
A great white shark has been filmed underwater in the Mediterranean Sea for the first time, an event that has surprised scientists and divers alike. The footage was captured by Derk Remmers, a technical diver, during a garbage collection mission in the Strait of Sicily. This mission was part of an initiative by Ghost Divers, a charity focused on removing ocean trash, in collaboration with Healthy Seas and the Society for the Documentation of Submerged Sites. The shark appeared while the team was recovering abandoned fishing nets from an offshore wreck. The encounter was both shocking and awe-inspiring for the divers, as great whites are critically endangered in the Mediterranean and had never been documented on camera in this region before.
