Canada Chooses Swedish Saab Over Boeing for Early Warning Aircraft
Canada has announced its decision to purchase a fleet of early warning planes from Sweden's Saab, opting for the GlobalEye model over Boeing's E-7 Wedgetail. This decision is part of Canada's strategic move to reduce reliance on U.S. defense firms. Prime Minister Mark Carney highlighted the benefits of this procurement, including job creation and reinforcing Canada's position as a global leader. Saab's GlobalEye, based on Bombardier's Global 6500 jet, was chosen over Boeing's model, which has faced delays and cost overruns. This decision aligns with Canada's broader defense strategy, which includes a deal to buy 88 F-35 jets from Lockheed-Martin.
