Woman Swept Away by Floodwaters Near Arizona-Mexico Border
A woman was swept away by floodwaters early Thursday morning while attempting to cross the San Pedro River near Greenbush Draw, approximately 20 miles southwest of Sierra Vista, Arizona (AZFamily, 2026-08-06). The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. as part of a group of six individuals who had illegally crossed the Arizona-Mexico border. Rising floodwaters overwhelmed the group, leading to the woman being carried away. U.S. Border Patrol agents detained the other five individuals near Naco and reported the incident to local authorities. Search and rescue efforts began shortly after, involving ground teams, a helicopter, and drones. Clothing items believed to belong to the missing woman were discovered later in the morning, but the search was suspended at 11:15 a.m. to coordinate additional resources, including cadaver K-9 teams. Efforts are expected to resume on Friday.
