Gillette Resident Identified as Suspect in Montrose Shooting Spree, Police Say
A tragic incident unfolded in Montrose, Colorado, when Eduardo Garcia Barrera, a 42-year-old part-time resident of Gillette, Wyoming, embarked on a shooting spree. Barrera purchased a handgun and ammunition in Gillette before driving over 11 hours to Montrose. Upon arrival, he began firing at random motorists and a pedestrian. The Montrose Police Department reported that Barrera's actions resulted in the injury of a 22-year-old pedestrian, who was shot in the lower left side of his body. The situation escalated when Barrera crashed his vehicle into a local restaurant, where he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police have not identified a motive for Barrera's actions, and the investigation is ongoing.
