CDC Issues Travel Warning for Costa Rica Due to Chikungunya Virus Outbreak
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a travel advisory for Costa Rica, specifically the Guanacaste Province, due to an outbreak of the chikungunya virus. The virus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, has been reported predominantly in Playa Langosta. Travelers are advised to get vaccinated and use insect repellent, as well as wear protective clothing. Symptoms of chikungunya include joint pain, rashes, headaches, and muscle pain, with some cases leading to prolonged joint pain. Costa Rica's Ministry of Health has responded by fumigating homes and implementing vector control measures.
