President Trump's Shipping Waiver Fails to Significantly Lower Gas Prices
President Trump's waiver of the Jones Act, which allows foreign-flagged ships to transport oil and fuel between U.S. ports, has not significantly reduced domestic gasoline prices. The waiver was intended to lower transportation costs and increase fuel supply amid high prices caused by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. However, elevated shipping rates and limited fuel volumes transported have minimized its impact. The waiver, the broadest suspension of the Jones Act in history, aimed to facilitate fuel transport from Gulf Coast refiners to the East and West coasts. Despite the waiver, national gasoline prices remain high, averaging $4.49 per gallon, with California prices at $6.11 per gallon.
