Pennsylvania Lawmakers Demand Answers from ICE and GEO Group Over Detention Center Conditions
Pennsylvania Congressmembers Chris Deluzio, Madeleine Dean, and Summer Lee have sent letters to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the GEO Group, which operates the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg, PA. The lawmakers are demanding explanations for alleged failures in staffing and medical care standards, as well as obstruction of congressional oversight. The facility, the largest ICE detention center in Pennsylvania, has been under scrutiny following reports of inadequate medical care and safety violations. During oversight visits, lawmakers were denied full access to detainees, raising concerns about transparency and accountability. The letters also highlight a potential conflict of interest involving Acting ICE Director David Venturella, who previously worked for GEO Group.
