Mayor Mamdani Establishes Nation's First Office of Worker Power to Support Union Organizing
On Labor Day, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the creation of the Office of Worker Power, a new initiative aimed at assisting private-sector workers in organizing unions and understanding their labor rights. This office, the first of its kind in the nation, will connect workers with union organizers, provide educational resources, and help report labor law violations. Tony Perlstein, a former longshoreman and organizing director for the United Auto Workers, will lead the office, reporting to Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su.
