Wisconsin Democrats Target Bryan Steil in Competitive Congressional Race
Democrats are focusing efforts on Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District to unseat four-term U.S. Representative Bryan Steil. Steil, who succeeded former House Speaker Paul Ryan in 2019, defeated Democratic challenger Peter Barca by 10 percentage points in the 2024 election. Despite the district's competitive nature on paper, Steil's strong fundraising capabilities and non-controversial profile make him a formidable incumbent. He has raised $3 million, received over $2 million from other committees, and holds $6.1 million in cash on hand. The Democratic primary features several candidates, including ER nurse Mitchell Berman, who has received multiple endorsements and launched a significant ad campaign. The primary will determine if a relatively unknown Democratic nominee can challenge Steil in what is expected to be a favorable year for Democrats.
