James Talarico Raises Over $3 Million Following Texas Primary Runoff Against Ken Paxton
James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Texas, has raised more than $3 million within 24 hours after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was confirmed as his Republican opponent. This fundraising achievement underscores Talarico's strong financial backing as he aims to become the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in Texas since 1988. The Democratic Party is optimistic about Talarico's chances, especially after Paxton, who has been embroiled in various scandals, defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn in a contentious primary runoff. Talarico's campaign has been marked by significant fundraising milestones, including a $27 million haul in the first quarter of the year. In contrast, Paxton's campaign and its affiliated committees raised $2.2 million during the same period. Talarico's campaign began April with $9.9 million in cash reserves, compared to Paxton's $2.6 million.
