Secret Service Involved in Shooting Near Washington Monument, Bystander Injured
A shooting incident occurred near the Washington Monument involving a uniformed Secret Service officer who shot a suspect. The suspect, who reportedly fired at officers, was taken to a hospital. A young bystander was also injured, possibly by the suspect's gunfire, and was treated for a graze wound. The incident took place at 15th Street SW and Independence Avenue, prompting a significant emergency response and road closures. The Secret Service Deputy Director, Matthew C. Quinn, stated that the suspect was not on White House grounds but was under observation before the confrontation. The Metropolitan Police Department is handling the investigation.
