Hillsboro Police Arrest 17 in Retail Theft Blitz Operation, Recovering 117 Stolen Items
The Hillsboro Police Department conducted a "retail theft blitz operation" on Friday, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals, including four teenagers. Among those arrested, four suspects had outstanding warrants, and 13 face various charges such as theft, possession of burglary tools, restricted weapons, controlled substances, and first-degree criminal mischief. The four teenagers were subsequently released to their parents. The operation successfully recovered 117 stolen items, which included a diverse range of goods like trading cards, fragrances, cosmetics, clothing, electronics, and alcohol. This initiative was funded by Oregon's Organized Retail Theft Grant Program and executed in collaboration with the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The grant, now approved for its second consecutive year, aims to combat organized retail theft and shoplifting throughout the county, and also supports a security camera upgrade program for eligible small and medium-sized retailers.
