Severe Storms Strike Iowa-Nebraska-South Dakota Border, More Rain Expected
Severe storms erupted late Tuesday night into early Wednesday near the Iowa-Nebraska-South Dakota border, bringing large hail and damaging winds to northeast Nebraska, as flagged by the National Weather Service (NWS) Omaha. The Sioux Falls NWS office anticipates additional scattered thunderstorms through Thursday. This marks the first confirmation of the active northern storm track predicted in recent outlooks. Over the next 10 days, the Dakotas, Minnesota, northern Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan are expected to experience repeated showers and thunderstorms. These weather patterns are particularly significant for the northern Corn Belt, where crops are still maturing. As of August 30, 62% of U.S. corn was dented, and 13% was mature, with soybeans at 95% pod-setting and 13% dropping leaves.
