Canistota's Housing Development Spurs Community Revitalization
In Canistota, South Dakota, a significant transformation is underway as local developers focus on housing development to revitalize the community. Kaitlyn Killoran, a former educator turned developer, and her husband have been instrumental in this change by purchasing and renovating properties, including hotels and twin homes. Their efforts are complemented by Mike Kerrigan, another local developer, who is building a 16-home subdivision and has remodeled several dilapidated houses. The Canistota Development Corp. is also playing a role by encouraging commercial development and beautifying the town. These initiatives have led to a population increase and a younger demographic, with 42% of residents under 29. The city, once known for its Ortman Chiropractic Clinic, is now becoming a regional housing hub, attracting new families and serving as a bedroom community for nearby cities.
