Global Oil Market Adapts to Offset Hormuz Dependency Amid Iran Tensions
The global oil market is undergoing significant changes as countries seek to reduce their dependency on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint currently under Iran's control. Despite ongoing military tensions and the U.S.'s inability to secure an alternative route through the strait, countries are developing new pipeline projects to bypass Hormuz. The UAE is fast-tracking its West-East pipeline, and Saudi Arabia is expanding its East-West pipeline. Additionally, a consortium including Chevron is considering rebuilding the pipeline from Kirkuk to the Syrian port of Baniyas, and Turkey has proposed extending the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline to Basra.
