Chicago Fire Department Mourns Loss of Veteran Firefighter Steven Decker
Funeral services were held for Steven Decker, a 30-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, who passed away during a training exercise. Decker, aged 61, suffered a medical emergency during an annual equipment test and was later determined to have died of natural causes due to heart disease. The service took place at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with a large turnout of firefighters, service members, and loved ones. Decker had dedicated nearly three decades to the department, serving as a fire engineer assigned to Engine 71 in the West Ridge neighborhood. His passing marks the second death in the department this year, following the death of firefighter Michael Altman in March.
