Saint Mary of Nazareth Nurses Announce Strike Over Unionization Retaliation
Nurses at Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago have announced a one-day strike scheduled for June 11. The strike is in response to alleged retaliation by the hospital's owner, Prime Healthcare, against their unionization efforts. The nurses filed a 10-day notice for the strike, following their petition to the National Labor Relations Board for a union election. They aim to be represented by the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United. The nurses claim that several colleagues leading the union campaign were terminated shortly after filing the petition, with the hospital citing trespassing during off hours as a reason for termination. The nurses argue that these actions have left the hospital understaffed, compromising patient care.
