OpenAI Launches Lockdown Mode to Mitigate Data Exfiltration Risks
OpenAI has introduced a new Lockdown Mode for ChatGPT, aimed at reducing the risk of data exfiltration from prompt injection attacks. This feature is available to users with Free, Go, Plus, Pro, and ChatGPT Business plans. Lockdown Mode limits tools and capabilities that connect to the web or external services, thereby reducing the risk of data being transmitted to attacker-controlled infrastructure. The mode disables live web browsing, image support, deep research, agent mode, and file downloads. While it does not prevent all prompt injection attacks, it aims to minimize potential data leakage pathways. OpenAI emphasizes that this mode is not for everyone but is designed for those handling sensitive data.
