Tennessee's Century Farms Program Celebrates Agricultural Heritage and Family Legacy
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Tennessee Agricultural Museum and the Center for Historic Preservation, recently celebrated the Century Farms program. This initiative honors Tennessee farms that have been in continuous agricultural operation and family ownership for over 100 years. The event, held at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum, also marked the launch of Dr. Carroll Van West's new book, 'Tennessee’s Frontier Century Farms: An Enduring Legacy of Family, Farming, and Community.' The program, established in 1975 during the nation's Bicentennial celebration, now includes over 2,300 farms across all 95 Tennessee counties. It highlights the importance of preserving the state's agricultural heritage and the role of farm families in sustaining rural communities and the economy.
