Senator Michael Bennet Settles Campaign Finance Violations with $7,433 Fine
U.S. Senator Michael Bennet's gubernatorial campaign has agreed to pay a $7,433 fine for using his Senate campaign account to cover travel expenses related to his gubernatorial campaign. This settlement, reached on July 31, includes an admission by Bennet and his campaign of violating state campaign finance laws. The violations stem from multiple complaints filed the previous year, which highlighted 39 travel-related expenses totaling $24,440.59 that were improperly paid from his Senate campaign funds. The Colorado Secretary of State's Elections Division identified these payments as prohibited contributions. Additionally, the Bennet campaign failed to timely report 27 travel-related expenses during the second and third quarters of 2025. The campaign has since reimbursed the Senate committee and agreed to waive appeal rights. The settlement, signed by Bennet and state officials, awaits approval from the deputy secretary of state.
