Rachel Could Dump Up to 12 Inches of Rain in the Southwest
Tropical Storm Rachel could make a rare sweep into Southern California this weekend before spreading rain and strong winds across the Southwest. The system may bring gusts up to 90 mph, while intense downpours could trigger life threatening flash floods and mudslides. Rainfall may reach 4 to 8 inches in parts of southwestern Utah and northwestern Arizona, with isolated totals as high as 12 inches. Phoenix, Flagstaff, Palm Springs, Cedar City and Las Vegas are among the areas facing potential flooding. Rachel’s moisture, combined with another storm, is also expected to end the persistent heat, bring cooler weather and offer some drought relief.
