Bucks County NAACP Calls for Quakertown Police Reforms Following ICE Protest Incident
The Bucks County NAACP and State Representative Napoleon Nelson are advocating for reforms in the Quakertown Borough Police Department following an incident where Police Chief Scott McElree placed a teenage protester in a chokehold during a student protest against ICE enforcement. The incident, which occurred on February 20, led to a six-month investigation by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation concluded that while McElree was a 'precipitating factor' in the violence, he did not commit a crime or violate department policies. Despite this, the NAACP and Nelson are pushing for stronger use-of-force policies, including restrictions on chokeholds and expanded use of body-worn cameras. The call for reform comes amid broader discussions on police accountability and use-of-force policies, especially following high-profile cases like the death of George Floyd.
