Generac Portable Generators Recalled Due to Fire Risk Affecting New York and Nationwide
Generac Power Systems has issued a recall for several models of its portable generators due to a risk of gas leaks that could lead to fire hazards. The recall affects units sold between May 2025 and February 2026 at major retailers such as Costco, Home Depot, and Lowe's across New York and the United States. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported that the generators may leak gasoline from the carburetor when first filled, posing a significant risk of fire or burn injuries. Although there have been 114 reports of gas leaks, no injuries have been reported so far. The affected models include GP3600, GP4000DF, GP6500, GP6500E, GP6500EDF, GP6700EDF, GP8000E, GP9200E, and GP9500ETF. Customers are advised to stop using the generators immediately and check if their unit's serial number is part of the recall. Affected customers can contact their dealer for a free repair or return the product to Costco for a full refund.
