Explosion in Queens Home Leads to Five-Alarm Fire and Multiple Hospitalizations
An explosion at a home in South Richmond Hill, Queens, triggered a five-alarm fire early Thursday morning, resulting in the hospitalization of multiple NYPD officers and the recovery of a man's body. The incident began when police responded to a call about a drunk man with a knife who had forced his way into the home. Upon arrival, officers were given a key to the house, but as they attempted to enter, an explosion occurred, throwing several officers off their feet. The fire quickly engulfed the two-story home and spread to a neighboring house. Nearly 300 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and the Red Cross is assisting the 16 residents displaced by the fire.
