Chicago City Officials Move to Inspect Beverly Home Hosting Unlicensed Concerts on Unpermitted Rooftop Deck
The city of Chicago is taking legal action against the owner and occupant of a Beverly home on the 10500 block of South Maplewood Avenue for repeatedly hosting unlicensed, ticketed events, including concerts, on an unpermitted rooftop deck. A Cook County judge has approved the city's request for an inspection of the property. The lawsuit, filed by the city, seeks an injunction against the property owner and occupants and aims to compel them to rectify building code violations. City officials have issued multiple cease and desist orders and citations since May, citing operations without food, liquor, and public amusement licenses. A failed building inspection in July revealed that a rooftop deck on the garage was constructed without proper permits, and subsequent work did not adhere to approved plans. The property had been advertised on rental platforms for events, and a July 18 event, 'Chanay’s Juke Joint: Love Hangover,' was promoted with live music, food, alcoholic beverages, and armed security.
