Tornado Warning Issued for Des Moines Area Amid Severe Thunderstorms
A tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines at 2:38 p.m. Central time on Thursday, April 2, 2026, as a severe thunderstorm moved northeast at 55 mph over Corydon, Iowa. The storm, capable of producing a tornado, was accompanied by quarter-sized hail and radar-indicated rotation. The warning was set to remain in effect until 3:15 p.m. for northeastern Wayne County, including Promise City and Millerton, located 65 miles south of Des Moines. AccuWeather meteorologists have also warned of isolated tornadoes potentially affecting the Midwest, including cities like Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, and Indianapolis, throughout the afternoon and evening.
