Ocean City Sees Rise in Jellyfish Stings: What Swimmers Need to Know
Ocean City, Maryland, has experienced an increase in jellyfish stings, particularly from sea nettles, which are common in the area. Beach Patrol lifeguards have been busy treating these stings, which typically cause mild irritation such as redness and itching. While most stings are not serious, Ocean City Beach Patrol Capt. Butch Arbin advises that individuals experiencing breathing difficulties or nausea should seek medical attention. The rise in stings is attributed to an active few weeks along the beaches, prompting officials to remind swimmers to be cautious.
