UN Security Council to Convene Emergency Session on Ukraine Following Russian Aerial Assault
The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency session on Monday in response to a large-scale aerial attack by Russia on Ukraine. This meeting, requested by Kyiv, follows a significant escalation in hostilities, with Russian forces launching 729 aerial weapons, including 73 missiles and 656 attack drones, targeting Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept 642 of these targets, but several missiles and drones penetrated defenses, causing fatalities and significant damage in cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kamianske. The attack resulted in the partial collapse of a residential building in Kyiv, highlighting the severe impact on civilian areas. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the need for sustained international pressure on Russia to uphold the UN Charter and support President Volodymyr Zelensky's peace proposal.
