State and Local Civil Rights Agencies Oppose EEOC Plan to End Workforce Demographic Reporting
A coalition of eight state and local civil rights agencies, including those from Illinois, Oregon, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia, has formally opposed the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) proposed rescission of federal workforce demographic reporting requirements, specifically the EEO-1 report. These agencies argue that eliminating this data collection would hinder efforts to identify and investigate employment discrimination. For sixty years, EEO workforce data has provided crucial information on workforce representation by race, sex, job category, and other characteristics, serving as a baseline for examining systemic disparities across various industries and regions.
