Maricopa County and Phoenix Launch Eviction Prevention Program in High-Risk Zip Codes
Maricopa County has partnered with the City of Phoenix to introduce an Eviction Prevention Pilot Program. This initiative aims to provide financial relief to residents facing eviction, utilizing $800,000 in funding. The program offers qualified individuals up to $3,200 to cover up to two months of rental arrears, with all funds directly allocated to rent payments. The pilot program targets four specific high-risk zip codes, primarily located within District 5: 85008, 85040, 85041, and 85042. Chair Kate Brophy McGee, District 3, emphasized that the program's purpose is to identify potential eviction cases early to avoid late and legal fees for both tenants and property owners. Supervisor Steve Gallardo, District 5, highlighted the importance of focusing on District 5 due to its high eviction rates, ensuring meaningful outcomes for families in need. Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington noted that the program benefits both renters and property owners by offering a resolution to prevent evictions.
