Waymo Suspends Services in Multiple U.S. Cities Due to Flooding and Construction Challenges
Waymo, the autonomous vehicle company, has temporarily halted its rider services in six U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, due to severe weather conditions and construction-related challenges. The disruptions began in early May when a Waymo vehicle encountered a flooded roadway in San Antonio, prompting a software recall. The company has since been working on improving its autonomous driving system to better handle such conditions. Additionally, Waymo has paused freeway operations across all regions to address performance issues in construction zones. These interruptions come as the company continues its expansion efforts, having recently launched services in several new cities and planning further growth in 2026.
