South Bristol Hosts Forum on Landfill Closure Plans, Engages Community in Waste Reduction Strategies
The town of South Bristol is organizing a community forum to discuss the upcoming closure of the Ontario County landfill, scheduled for 2028. The event, set for July 20 at the South Bristol Town Hall, aims to engage residents in planning for this transition. Key figures such as Carla Jordan, director of the Ontario County Sustainability Department, and Chris Debolt, Ontario County administrator, will be present. The forum will focus on enhancing the town's waste management strategies, including strengthening access controls to the transfer station, expanding composting efforts to reduce landfill waste and methane emissions, and improving recycling through better household sorting and hazardous waste reduction. Educational initiatives, such as mailers and recycling magnets funded by the Ontario County Department of Sustainability, have been distributed to households to support these efforts.
