Humanoid Robot Successfully Performs First Laparoscopic Surgery on Live Pig
A team of engineers and surgeons from the University of California, San Diego, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing the first-ever laparoscopic surgery on a live pig using a humanoid robot. The robot, a modified Unitree G1, was remotely controlled by a surgeon and conducted the surgery under the guidance of skilled medical professionals. The procedure involved making small incisions in the pig's abdomen to insert endoscopes and surgical instruments, a technique already common with traditional surgical robots. However, this marks the first time a humanoid robot has been used for such a procedure. The research team conducted extensive tests to ensure the robot's capability to handle surgical instruments and perform the surgery effectively.
