Boyle Heights Community Faces Severe Health Risks Following Warehouse Fire, Report Indicates
A new report from St. John's Community Health and other organizations indicates that residents and workers near a massive warehouse fire in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, face severe and worsening health risks. The fire, which occurred at a Lineage Logistics warehouse two months prior, burned for over a week, leaving an estimated 85 million pounds of rotting food. This decaying organic matter has attracted vermin and caused a foul odor throughout the area. The report, released on Tuesday, highlights that the rotting food and toxins from the site have sickened many in surrounding neighborhoods. Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John's Community Health, stated that over 1,300 people were treated after the fire, with nearly 40% experiencing serious acute health problems.
