EU Mandates AI Labels on Authentic-Looking Content to Combat Misinformation
The European Union has introduced new rules requiring companies to label AI-generated content that appears authentic. This move is part of the EU's AI Act, aimed at curbing the spread of deceptive content online. Starting August 2, new AI systems must comply, while existing ones have four months to adapt. The rules mandate that synthetic text, images, video, and audio be visibly marked as AI-generated, with a digital watermark indicating their artificial origins. The initiative seeks to protect democracy and ensure transparency in digital content.
